ST. PHILIP'S MINISTRIES

— Altar Guild
President: Ms. Angela Edwards
The Altar Guild is made up of women, and youth that serves the Lord by maintaining the beauty and greatness of God through caring for the Altar and Sanctuary.
The Altar Guild is made up of women, and youth that serves the Lord by maintaining the beauty and greatness of God through caring for the Altar and Sanctuary. They are also responsible for the setup of the altar; changing seasonal linens, preparation for Holy Communion and vessels, the cleaning and the storing of Altar and Sanctuary items. Maintaining supplies for the Altar are also the responsibility of this Auxiliary.
Members consist of:

— Board of Elders
Chairman: Mr. Michael K. Anderson, Sr.
The Board of Elders is responsible for the spiritual welfare of the congregation as a whole as well as the congregation’s individual members.
Each Elder on the board is assigned zones as it relates to areas where congregation members reside. Currently, St. Philip’s has six Elders on the Board who are divided among the zones. Elders interact with congregation members in their zones follow up on health and spiritual wellness.
Auxiliaries
The Board of Elders oversees the auxiliaries or organizations of the church to ensure that organizations remain on track with spreading God’s grace. (Please see above)

— Board of Evangelism
Chairwoman: Julia Drew
The purpose of the Board of Evangelism (B.O.E.) is to reach out and spread the word of the Gospel. Additionally, the function of the B.O.E. is:
- Witness – Tell others about Christ.
- Take the Gospel to the unchurched.
- Service; Serve others as Christ did.
- Fellowship: Care for and serve one another as we share our gifts.
- Work together with all organizations to evangelize and reach out into the community with Love.
- Promote and direct congregational wide undertakings.
- Be responsible for maintenance and follow-up of lay visitors.
- Be conscious of the atmosphere of friendliness in the congregation towards members and visitors and suggest ways of improvement.
- Study and adopt or adapt suggestions by evangelism Dept. of Synod, District, and Circuit.
- Emphasize evangelism through an every-member education program.
- Engage at least once yearly in self-study of methods and program of the Board’s work.

— Board of Trustees
Chairman:
The Board of Trustees is responsible for many physical aspects of the church, such as the facilities, the grounds, and supplies. Any maintenance that needs to occur on the site is coordinated through this board. They also coordinate and work with any contractors that are contracted to do work for St. Philip’s.
Members consist of:
Anyone led to work with finances and contractors are encouraged to join and experience the joy that comes from giving and serving generously.

— Choral Ensemble
Chairwoman: Dr. Ingrid Draper
The Worship Committee supports the Pastor in ensuring that the worship services of the congregation are conducted regularly and in accordance with Lutheran tradition and teaching. The committee supervises trains and supports all worship assistants as well as supports and works with the church musicians and choir director; a representative of visiting church choirs and our appointed representative on the Board of Elders. not listed
This committee plans special services, encourages congregational participation, and studies issues related to the worship ministry.
- Receiving feedback from the congregation.
- Coordinating with other committees, individuals or subcommittees.
- Training and coordination of particular ministries (altar guilds, acolytes).
- Planning worships with the pastors and musicians.
- Coordinating publicity for liturgies and other events.
- Preparing explanatory or inspiring articles in the newsletter about particular services and times in the church year.
- Reassessing worship times.
- Providing opportunities for community singing.
- Staying aware of liturgical trends and concerns within the synod.
- Caring for the committee budget.
- Hymnal selection and maintenance.
Members consist of:
Church Musicians, Choir Directors, Visiting musical representatives, Designated member of Board of Elders.

— Ladies Aid
President: Ms. Vernonia Kennedy
Members consist of:
All the ladies of the congregation are members of the Ladies Aid ministry.

— Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML)
Chairwoman: Ms. Vernonia Kennedy
The LWML concentrates on bringing women together to affirm their relationship with the Triune God, so she is able to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world. We assist one another in growing in faith and as a blessing to others. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming women’s relationship with Christ, encouraging, and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions. We achieve this through social, recreational and spiritual activities.
Members consist of:
Every woman and the young lady in the church is considered a member of the LWML. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting and events.

—Media Team
Chairwoman: Miss. Coretta Evans
The media ministry is responsible for St. Philip’s social media, website, and other digital outlets to spread the word of God. Sharing messages of the Lord’s word, encouragement, events, and activities of St. Philips is the media team’s focus. We assist in getting the word out and making the community aware of projects, events, activities, etc at the church.
Media Liaison: London Miller
Members consist of:
Those with working knowledge of media whether social, video, etc. and are willing to share their time, and talents helping to spread the word of the Gospel and information from the church.

—Men's Ministry
President: Mr. John Davis
The Men’s Ministry concentrates on bringing men together to service the purpose of the Lord through social, recreational and spiritual activities. Part of the ministry focus is to encourage other men and young men to be active in the church as well as in the community spreading the word of God. Periodically through the year, the Men’s Ministry hosts a variety of fundraisers and informative events where we fellowship, pray, and discuss the path the ministry will take to fulfill God’s word. For the Altar and Sanctuary.

Every male in the church 16 years and older is a member of the Men’s Ministry and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting and events.

— Sunday School
Superintendent: Mrs. Myra Willians
Sunday school helps amplify the messages that worship provides, nourishes the information and addresses any questions related to the Word of God. In Sunday school adults and youth can open the discussion of scripture. We focus on members and visitors from Pre-K to Adults offering classes as follows.
Every Sunday 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 Adults and Youth Classes
Members consist of:
Those interested in teaching youth or adult classes and members who would like to serve in bible teaching are welcomed to join this ministry.

— Stewardship Committee
Chairwoman: Mrs. Robin Finklea
The Stewardship Committee helps the congregation understand the responsibility and the privilege that has been given to be God’s stewards through giving to God in time, talent and treasures. This committee strives to: educate the members of the congregation about the dedication of time, talents, and treasures to God. The stewardship committee is responsible for leading by example. As well as motivate, encourage and assist in focusing the congregation of these goals. The committee supports and/or facilitates several church-wide Ministry activities, including the identification, planning, and implementation of church-wide Stewardship programs, including the annual pledging process, collaborating in planning and fundraising with the church on the annual church anniversary. Creating enthusiasm for Christian giving and is available to the Board of Elders and the Congregation for other requests.
The Stewardship Committee is a standing committee appointed and supervised by the Board of Elders. The Elder that is specifically appointed to oversee The Steward Committee is Elder Johnny Edwards.
Regarding the stewardship of God-given treasures, it upholds the Biblical principle recorded in 2 Corinthians 8:12(NIV):
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

— Usher Board
President: Mr. Alfred Lee
The mission of the Usher Ministry is to accommodate every congregation member and visitor, who enters the church with a seat in the most pleasant and efficient manner possible.
Ushers provide a comfortable, God-fearing and loving orderly atmosphere for congregation members and visitors to come and worship.
Ushers are the front line of greeting and welcoming members and visitors when they attend service and special events. He or she projects the best possible impression of the atmosphere of the church and its love for God. In addition to extending a warm welcome Ushers are also responsible for the following:
Ushers distribute worship bulletins, ensure worshipers have giving envelopes and communion cards assist with seating members and visitors, assist members exiting the sanctuary, collect offerings, direct communion flow, clean up after service, and help get the Sanctuary ready for worship services. Different teams serve at each service, rotating on a monthly basis.

— Willing Workers
President: Ms. Cynthia Kendle
Vice Chair: Vernnnia Kennedy
The Willing Workers focus is cuisine ministry, making sure that the Love of God is shared through food. This ministry prepares and serves food, set up special occasions and a variety of events, home going services, and fundraisers, etc.
Members consist of:
Those would like serve in the capacity of food preparations, kitchen functions, on site and off site set-ups, and food service to members and visitors with a warm and welcoming heart.

— Youth Ministry
President: Miss Coretta Evans
The Youth Ministry primary mission is to equip young people to develop a deeper relationship with Christ, encourage uplifting relationships with other Christians, and empower life to change relationships with non-believers. This is accomplished through Bible classes, social events/projects/trips, outreach events, and youth group gatherings.
Any youth 18 years of age or younger is part of the youth ministry. We look forward to seeing you at the next meetings and events.
Members consist of:
Those with a passion for youth in our communities and who would like to in reach and outreach are welcome to join this ministry.
